Bone carvings meaning

The “fish hook” or Hei Matau represents abundance, strength and determination. It is believed to bring peace, prosperity and good health. It is a symbol intended to catch good luck and energy, as well as ensure the wearer a safe journey through their travels.

The “spiral” or Koru represents peace, tranquility, personal growth, positive change and awakening. It is associated with new life of any kind (be it a birth, going off to college, starting over,  getting a new job, etc.) and harmony. 

The Toki (or adze) was an important tool for the Maori people. No matter what material is used to carve the toki into, be it stone, jade, wood or bone, it was traditionally worn by the elders of the tribe. It symbolizes power, wisdom and authority.

The Single Twist symbolizes the path of life. Regardless of its twists and turns, life carries on. It is also called the eternity symbol, as well as being considered to be the symbol of eternal and undying love between two people.

The multiple twist represents the joining of two cultures in friendship for life. It may also symbolize the joining of two people in love or friendship for eternity.
